To prepare travel plans to support Whitbread Premier Inn hotel sites, providing bespoke reports referring to their location and access to alternative modes of travel.

BACKGROUND

RGP has been involved in supporting the expansion of the Premier Inn hotel chain, on behalf of Whitbread, for a number of years. This has taken the form of transport advice and information, throughout the planning process.

To date, (June 2018) RGP has been involved with producing Travel Plans or travel plan supporting documents for 157 new build hotels, 72 extensions, 12 hub hotels as well as Whitbread’s Head Office.

RGP’S APPROACH

Utilising RGPs extensive experience with the operation of Whitbread’s hotel brands RGP has been able to develop a clear strategy for the production, implementation and monitoring of travel plans ensuring they are specifically tailored to each site and each local authority’s requirements, whilst being realistically related to the size and nature of the proposals.

This has included the development and production of bespoke hotel specific travel posters to be installed and displayed in hotel receptions. This custom-made information aims to condense the sustainable travel advice included within the hotel’s travel plan and ensure guests and staff are fully aware of their travel options.

In relation to BREEAM requirements the production of the Travel Plans have ensured the awarding of a credit under TRA05 of the BREEAM scoring system, whilst the production of the poster has also been used to gain an additional credit (TRA07 – Local Public Transport).

The approach was accepted by Surrey County Council as Local Highway Authority and the application was approved by Guildford Borough Council in August 2018.
