REMIT

RGP provides ongoing input and advice in relation to the regeneration proposals at Acton Gardens.

Acton Gardens, the regeneration of Britain’s largest housing estate, will comprise more than 3,000 new homes by the time all of its 21 phases are completed in 2026. The Acton Gardens programme, currently under construction, will see the existing residential blocks demolished and redeveloped.

BACKGROUND

RGP’s recent input supports the submission of a detailed planning application for Phase 8 of the proposal to implement the construction of 330 homes of mixed tenure.

The implementation of Phase 8 is critical to the overall delivery of the wider Masterplan in transport terms, providing the Principal link road through the site and accommodating works to provide the diverted bus route through the scheme.

The technical and policy approach that supported the assessment presented were scoped and agreed at length with the relevant Highway Officers at the LBE, Transport for London (TfL) and the Greater London Authority (GLA).

RGP’S APPROACH

The key approach to the development was to provide convenient connections excellent transport links locally. Tube services are available from East Acton, North Acton, West Acton and Acton Central stations, while Overground services call at Acton Central and South Acton. By 2019, Acton main line station will be connection up to the long-awaited Crossrail network.

The layout of Phase 8 was heavily dictated by the accommodation of a bus service running north/ south through the centre of the site. RGP engaged early with bus operators at Transport for London to discuss and agree the design requirements for the bus route that would compliment the overall layout of the scheme.
