REMIT

There were a number of challenging transport matters that were tackled by RGP over a number of years. This included a congested local road network and the requirement to provide a new pedestrian crossing facility over the A320 for Salesian School.

RGP prepared a Travel Plan in support of the development. Further support was also prepared in the form of various Transport Statements and Technical Notes and Travel Plans, including documents to accompany the replacement sports pitch scheme.

BACKGROUND

The development comprises a total of 158 new residential dwellings with a mix of one and two bedroom apartments and three and four bedroom houses, a proportion of which will be provided as affordable houses. Access to the development is formed by a new landscaped boulevard.

The site was formerly playing fields for the local Salesian School. As part of the proposals, alternative sports pitches as well as a sports pavilion were proposed opposite the school on the western side of Guildford Road.

Runnymede Borough Council granted consent for the proposals subject to the completion of the section 106 agreement.

RGP’S APPROACH

The key approach to the development was to assess the traffic impact of the scheme against baseline traffic flows on the local highway network. This enabled the net impact of the proposals to be identified. The provision of an appropriate access arrangement in relation to Hanworth Lane was also a significant consideration.

The provision of an appropriate pedestrian crossing arrangement across the A320 was also of fundamental importance in order to provide suitable access to the replacement sorts pitches for pupils of Salesian School.
